Emily King (MSc/LLB) is a former resource management lawyer, now food systems expert with over a decade’s experience. She is the founder of Spira, a consultancy that cultivates change in our food system. She was named one of Food Tank’s top 20 global food leaders under 40, and one of the Top 50 Women in Food and Drink Aotearoa New Zealand 2024, for her work improving our food system. She’s trained hundreds of people in food systems, has judged the Outstanding Food Producer Awards sustainability category for the past eight years, established The Kitchen Project, Kai Waiheke, and facilitated the New Zealand Government’s Food Summit Dialogues in the lead up to the UN Food System Summit 2021. In 2023 she published the groundbreaking book Re-food - Exploring the troubled food system of Aotearoa New Zealand, to wake the sleepy public about the issues in our food system.
